Noordse landen: Minder voedselverspilling met betere labeling

The UN sustainable development goals call for a 50% reduction in food waste by 2030. After its annual meeting in June, the Nordic Council of Ministers issued a statement supporting this target. The Council represents Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the three autonomous territories of Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Aland.
To reduce the waste of uneaten/unprepared food by consumers, the council also published a guidance document titled, “Food Waste and Date Labeling."
It provides interpretation of “best before” and “use by” label dates, and suggests adding more information for consumers on food packaging (Recycling Laws International, 20 juli 2017).
