Betaalbaar sorteren van zwarte kunststoffen uit afval

Recycling black plastics used to be impossible because their absorption properties made them invisible to the optical analysis systems. Researchers have now developed a technology that can sort black plastics according to type.
Shredded plastic waste is deposited onto a conveyor belt. At the end of it, the plastic flakes fall off in a wide arc. A radar camera emits a beam of terahertz radiation through this stream of flakes. At the opposite end of the beam, the system analyzes how the individual particles have modified the radiation and then determines what kind of plastic it is. The system then decides whether to knock the particle out of the stream (Persbericht Fraunhofer, 1 juni 2016).
