Cellulose/PVA composieten die recyclebaar zijn met papier

With the final aim of finding materials with a single recycling channel, researchers at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy investigated cellulose fiber/poly(vinyl)alcohol (PVA) composites. After extrusion and injection molding, samples of composite with different cellulose fiber content (30%, 50% and 70% w/w) were tested.
The newly developed cellulose fiber/PVA composite (which is called Poly-paper) is a very stiff and strong material that can be shaped into complex forms and integrated with corrugated board for inclusion in the recycling process of the board itself. An article about the research is published in the Journal of Applied Biomaterials & Functional Materials.
