EU: new list published with illustrative examples of what is and what is not packaging

An amendment of EU Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste has been published in the European Official Journal on 8 February 2013. The amendment concerns Annex I of the directive and its amendment 2004/12/EC. Article 3(1) of the directive defines ‘packaging’ by setting out a number of criteria. The items listed in Annex I to that Directive are illustrative examples of the application of those criteria. For example an RFID-tag is now considered non-packaging.
