LT: Ministerie stelt ban eenmalige kunststof draagtassen voor

The Lithuanian Ministry of Environment has announced that it is drafting regulations to ban the distribution of single-use plastic bags effective December 31, 2018. The regulations will bring Lithuania into compliance with recent amendments to the EU Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste The amendments require all EU Member States to either end lightweight plastic carrier bag distribution by 31 December 2018 or reduce per capita consumption to 90 bags by the end of 2019 and 45 bags by the end of 2025.
The ban will apply to plastic bags with a thickness between 15 and 50 microns. However, plastic bags used to carry bulk foods will be exempt (State Recycling Laws Update Bulletin, 28 oktober 2015).
