VS: Rhode Island overweegt weer verbod op eenmalige draagtassen in de staat
For the second year in a row, the state of Rhode Island is considering a ban on most single-use plastic bags. The Plastic Waste Reduction Act focuses on banning plastic checkout and take-out bags currently offered at grocery stores, markets and restaurants.
While the measure does make mention of using paper bags made from at least 40% recycled content and reusable bags, the overriding mission of the act is to reduce the widespread litter of plastic bags. Some plastic bags, including dry cleaning bags and fruit and vegetable "plastic barrier bags," are exempt from the ban, which would take effect on January 1, 2015 (Nieuwsbericht Resource Recycling, 6 februari 2014).
