Roep om kleurcodering ampullen en medicijnverpakkingen
The dangers of similar appearances of ampoules has been highlighted on a number of occasions – and a recent case report illustrated that this is not purely a theoretical problem.
Implementing the 2003 international colour coding system for syringe labelling has made drug administration safer. The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland has recently established a working party to examine syringe and drug infusion labelling. Hopefully the scope of this working party will also include drug packaging and how it affects drug administration. Surely it is time for anaesthetists to encourage manufacturers to produce colour-coded ampoules and packaging? (Anaesthesia, 12 maart 2015)
