US Massachusetts: Statiegeld voor alle drankverpakkingen

In 1981, Massachusetts enacted its Beverage Container Recovery Law, which places a 5 cent deposit on glass, metal, and plastic containers holding soft drinks, mineral water, beer and malt beverages. Two bills introduced in the Massachusetts House of Representatives would replace the current scheme with a one cent recycling fee on all beverages sold in containers. The bills are H.646 and H.2880.
H.646 would place a 1 cent fee on all beverage containers beginning on July 1, 2016. The fee, however, would be in effect for three years only, ending on June 30, 2019. Two years ago similar legislation was introduced, which failed passage (State Recycling Laws Update, 16 maart 2015).
